Todd Blaudow has always dreamed of owning his own business. As a young boy, he sold customized address labels to his Central Illinois neighbors, and he and a friend
started a successful lawn maintenance service to help finance his way through college.
“I’m living the goal I set for myself many years ago,” says Blaudow. “I always wanted to have a manufacturing facility and build products—I like to see something I built working and then see someone
happily using it.”
Blaudow, who enjoys mountain biking, hiking, fishing, boating and
spending time with his sons, is also known as ‘Action Figure’ to
many friends.
He is an Eagle Scout and believes he can translate his values to
his business, which he hopes his sons will someday take an interest
in. And when it comes to friends or business associates, he looks
for reliability and consistency. “I know I’m going to be fair in
my dealings and I expect others to do the same,” he says. “Occasionally
I’ve been disappointed but I’ve found that expecting the best often
means you get it.”
His background is in manufacturing, process control, design and machinery applications. Prior to co-founding TDI Products in March, 2000, Blaudow spent two years designing, developing and obtaining
regulatory approvals for the first automated refueling robot for cars. The product, developed by Autofill, AB of Sweden, is the first of its kind to obtain UL, NIST and FCC approval in the U.S.
Before that, he was a process control engineer for Riley Gear, a precision gear manufacturer. He was also responsible for material selection, document and data control, CAD drawings, manufacturing operations, time
studies, problem solving tooling and fixtures.
Blaudow started his engineering career at Advanced Technology Services (ATS), where he held several positions, starting with machine tool maintenance and moving into new product development.
He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of
Florida. He is married, and the father of two sons, Jacob and Alexander.
